What is Ondansetron injection?

Ondansetron injection is a drug used to prevent nausea and vomiting. It is given by injection into a vein (intravenously), or by mouth.  It is used to prevent these symptoms after surgery, after receiving radiation therapy, or after receiving chemotherapy.  It may also be used to prevent nausea and vomiting after anesthesia.

Ondansetron injection comes in a generic form and a brand name form (Zofran).

The most common side effects are: headache, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, and tiredness.

The most common serious side effects of this injection are: anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction), heart attack, and torsades de pointes (a type of abnormal heart rhythm).

The dosage of the injection depends on the condition being treated. This injection comes as a solution (liquid) to be injected intravenously (into a vein) by a healthcare provider. It is usually given once a day.
