What is Ontak
?

Ontak is a monoclonal antibody used to treat a type of cancer called cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. It is a targeted therapy, which means it attacks only the cancer cells and leaves normal cells alone. Ontak is given by infusion into a vein.

Ontak (denileukin diftitox) is a recombinant human interleukin-2 (IL-2) receptor antagonist that is used to treat cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) in people who have not responded to other therapies. Ontak is also used to prevent a relapse of CTCL in people who have responded to therapy.

Ontak works by blocking the effects of IL-2, a protein that is produced by the body’s immune system. IL-2 is thought to play a role in the development and progression of CTCL. By blocking the effects of IL-2, Ontak may help to stop the growth of CTCL cells.

Ontak is available as a tablet and injection.

Side Effects and Dosage of Ontak

Ontak (denileukin diftitox) is a recombinant human cytokine that is indicated for the treatment of patients with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) who have received at least one prior systemic therapy.

Ontak is supplied as a lyophilized powder for intravenous infusion. The recommended initial dose of Ontak is 3 million units/m2, administered over a period of 10 minutes. The dose may be repeated every 14 days.

There are no known drug interactions with Ontak.

Common side effects of Ontak include fever, chills, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and headache.

Serious side effects of Ontak include capillary leak syndrome, which can lead to life-threatening fluid accumulation in the lungs, brain, and other body tissues; severe allergic reactions, which can lead to anaphylaxis; and tumor lysis syndrome, which can lead to kidney failure.
